Large and expressive vintage Japanese kokeshi doll crafted in the sosaku (creative) style, dating to the mid-century modern era. This tall sculptural piece features a rounded minimalist head with serene facial painting and a hand-decorated body with a stylized landscape scene. The contrasting natural bark texture on the lower body and the dark painted midsection give the doll a strong okimono-style presence, making it an eye-catching decorative object or collector’s piece. Condition notes: the wood in the base splits outward in several places, and there is a prominent split on the right side of the head as well as along the neck and top of the torso in multiple areas. These are age-related and typical for older solid wood pieces; the doll remains structurally stable and suitable for display.
